Rustic Log Furniture by Greater Yellowstone Furniture. Our unique rustic furniture designs included rustic log furniture, log beds, log tables, and log bar stools.
Our rustic log furniture will look great in your log home, log cabin or lodge. We purposely do not have a shopping cart system on this site. This is truly a custom log furniture business and we want our clients to voice their own input in the design of their furniture. We like to talk to each client before an order is placed to better understand our client's wishes about how they would like their rustic log furniture to look. Gene Nellis is the designer and builder of our rustic log furniture. This is not a production line type of business. Our rustic log furniture pieces are truly one-of-a-kind pieces. Our unique, one of a kind, handcrafted, rustic log furniture is made from select timber found in Southwestern Montana's higher elevations. No live trees are cut to produce our quality rustic log and barnwood furniture. Only dead-standing, beetle-kill, lightning or wind-downed trees are used in order to preserve the natural resources in this area. We go into the forests and "cruise" the timber stands for the best pieces that will have just the right character and strength for the piece of log furniture that will be created.
Unique rustic log furniture is made from dead-standing bull pine, ponderosa pine, and lodge pole pine. We periodically cruise the forests in this area and find the dead-standing trees that have been struck by lightning, beetle killed, or are blown down by the wind, and either take them as we need them, or tag them for later use. This insures that the wood is dried to a point that it can be worked with, and not check and split too much.
A natural drying process allows the bark to be removed leaving a natural, variable color on the wood, which is just gorgeous.

Greater Yellowstone Furniture and
Designs was commissioned to design and build a set of rustic log furniture
pieces consisting of log chairs
and matching table. The clients wanted the chairs to swivel and
have arms. Gene wasn't sure how he was going to accomplish
this, but he put his mind to work and this is what he came up with.
The set is made out of lodge pole pine, the root swell of the trees
for the chairs, and the table is the slab out of one of the chairs.
The chair bases are the branches off the lodge pole pine, and
the base of the table is a root ball. And the arms are
designed out of root balls that have grown on a slope and are thus
curved.

This handcrafted, rustic Lodge Pole Pine Log Table (log dining table) below features full 2" thick rough sawn lodge pole pine slabs with natural edges, hand-joining to preserve the contoured shape of the slabs. The log table end also features natural edges. The top features a stressed look achieved by using a hand axe to add character. It also has bread boards on both ends. The base features "claw foot" legs which are Douglas Fir root balls 4" in diameter at the top of the leg. The claw feet are joined together with Douglas fir burls. Greater Yellowstone Furniture and Designs collects these unique forest products exclusively from dead wood found by many excursions on foot, and the pieces are packed out by hand which protects the live forest from impact. This log dining table has a multi-coat of oil-based high quality polyurethane, good for a lifetime of carefree use. All are products are guaranteed for life in normal home use.

RUSTIC LOG BARSTOOLS
The rustic log bar stools are built out of lodge pole pine and a bull pine which grows at a higher elevation here in Montana. These are dead-standing trees which have the worm-worked surfaces. Gene uses a chainsaw to "carve" the seat and backs out of the mammoth logs and that way the seats and backs are all out of one piece of tree. One piece bar stool seats and backs!! I do not peel off the surfaces that the worms have made under the bark. They make beautiful colors and gyrations in the limbs. The bases are made from limbs of these trees.
Unique rustic log furniture is made from dead-standing bull pine, ponderosa pine, and lodge pole pine. We cruise the forests in this area and use dead-standing trees that have been struck by lightning, beetle killed, or are blown down by the wind.
A natural drying process allows the bark to be removed leaving a natural,
